AIDS is spread through the direct transference of infected bodily fluids including but not limited to blood and semen. While the virus has been isolated in tears and saliva, there is no record of transmitting the disease via these means. Also (and it can not be over emphasized), AIDS is not spread through casual contact (hugging, hand shaking, touching, etc.), insect bites, the sharing of bathroom facilities or swimming pools, or through food preparation. In fact a growing body of evidence suggest otherwise.
Similarly the virus cannot exist free for an extended period of time
(20 minutes or so), and is killed by routine sterilization procedures
(including autoclaving and diluted chlorine bleach).
